ONE OF THOSE WEEKENDS

Squash

I could definitely do with doing this weekend over, nothing really went to plan! On Saturday I woke up to having pulled my back, I'm pretty sure it was lugging the works camera around all day on Friday with its stupidly big lens but that meant I could barely walk/laugh/sneeze (ouch) without it pulling. We did have plans to go to the market and go for some food but instead I had a whole day in my pyjamas with season 4 of Dexter, plenty of ibuprofen and some lovely advice from Kate saw me through (not bad eh). I was feeling much better on Sunday so we took a trip to Wing Yip and stocked up on our usual bits (the vegetarian chicken pieces are the best!) and spent the rest of the afternoon catching up on bits and bobs around the house.
But then I stupidly decided to make a butternut squash lasagne for tea which was so awful - I have no idea how it was so bad, but I couldn't eat it. Up next was the rhubarb crumble which had waaaay too much powdery crumble and was also awful (??) so I ended up with out of date treacle sponge pudding and low fat custard.

You can't win them all.

PIZZA PILGRIMS

In my quest to try all the pizza in London, we finally got round to trying Pizza Pilgrims new Pizzeria in Soho. When we went to Feast way back in March we tried one of their margherita pizzas which they cooked in their van and we loved it. The pizzeria certainly doesn't disappoint either, the pizzas are more tomatoey then cheesey which I think I actually preferred and the bases are soft and just the right thinness/thickness (depending how you look at it). I ordered the Nduja pizza - a moreish spicy sausage, which I have to say I feel like they scrimped a little on the amount of sausage, even though it was delicious. I just wanted more sausage or something else to make it feel like it was worth the £9. The whole feel of the pizzeria is really nice though, you don't feel rushed or hounded and the staff were helpful in recommending things. Definitely one to visit for a decent pizza!

A WANDER AROUND SOHO

We went for a short stroll around Soho at the weekend, when we first moved to London we regularly walked around Soho feeling like very small fish in a massive pond and taking in all the sights. I love the busyness of it (the only time I like a busy place) and just how much is going on; new restaurants, bars and cafes popping up all the time - and not to mention the old faithfuls that will still be there for years to come.

LEARNING CROCHET

crochet

Over the past couple of days I've been learning how to crochet from a few videos I've come across and desperately trying to remember what Jess taught me a few weeks ago. I can see I'm getting better, I just need to remember to count and not freestyle so much. Getting there though!

A WANDER AROUND CANARY WHARF

During the working week Canary Wharf is over flowing with city folk working in business or mainly finance. At the weekend it has a completely different feel to it with barely any workers there at all and only a handful of tourists. It isn't really one of my favourite places in London but it has an interesting atmosphere, almost like a ghost town as the majority of the shops and restaurants are shut for the weekend. A nice place to wander around if you're looking for somewhere quiet.

SHAKE SHACK

The other day we took ourselves out for a mid-week visit to Shake Shack, finally! I got the Shack-cago Dog which I have to say was a little on the small side but very tasty, the pickled chillies were a great touch, just wish it was a little bigger (fatty). Steven loved his veggie burger too, usually he gets the bum deal so it was a nice change- it was a deep fried mushroom burger filled with cheese! It's a little shame its in the most tourist of touristy places in London but don't let it put you off. I probably should have tried the burger but I just can't resist a hot dog, next time!

Gosh, there's been a lot of food on the blog this week!

I've been for a wander around Brixton Village a few of times before but I've only ever eaten at my favourite pizza place, Franco Manca. We wanted to try somewhere new so decided to venture back with it in our minds we wanted a curry. One of the first places we came across, Elephant, was just what we were looking for. The menu is simple with either thali's or a bowl of curry, and a good view of spying on all the market shoppers. There are so many food places to try in the markets - that all look so tasty that I don't know which one to try next!

A WEEKEND OF FOOD

Pizza

After a bit of a stressful week we decided to take it easy this weekend by eating as much as we could, we started the weekend on Friday night with a pizza, of course!

Breakfast

Our Saturday morning breakfast with apple juice in the new glasses I found for 50p at the charity shop. We always make sure we have nice breakfasts on a weekend, it makes up for the natural yoghurt throughout the week!

Brixton Village

We went to Brixton in the afternoon and had a very tasty thali

Ms Cupcake

Afternoon (vegan) cake from Ms Cupcake, second time in a week I've been - that ferrero rocher one on the left is just too good. We somehow managed to wait the bus ride home to eat them

Sunday Breakfast

Sunday morning breakfast before Steven did some overtime at work and I pottered around the flat. I have to say that whilst cooking this I nearly set myself on fire...and then the kitchen...and then burnt the tomatoes. Wasn't the relaxing morning I had in mind!

Sunday

The final meal of the weekend - only right with a silly amount of peas.

I think we did pretty well for food this weekend, don't you?!

MY SATURDAY

The Mighty Fork

Saturday involved a visit from two dear friends who live in Brighton. We had vegan hot dogs from The Mighty Fork which were delicious, we sat on Clapham Common and enjoyed the sunshine...

Vegan cake

Vegan cake from a new place in Camden - the less said about that the better to be honest...

Blues Kitchen

And then happily sat in The Blue's Kitchen in Camden for the rest of the afternoon - it's the best place for bourbon lovers

Blues Kitchen

My Bison Julep cocktail, I really wish I could have one right now.
