BATH: PART 1

For the first time since about May I had a full week off work - and it was bloody brilliant and much needed. It was one of those weeks that actually felt like a full week off and not over and done in about 3 days which is very rare - even to the working week! We decided to book a couple of nights in at a hotel in Bath as it's always been on our 'places to visit' list but have just never got round to it. Surprisingly, the train is only about an hour and a half from London too so it could definitely be done in a day, good to know for the future!
Anyway, on to Bath itself...we LOVED Bath, it is such a beautiful tiny city with lovely independent shops and nice cafes and really friendly people, everywhere. Are you listening, London? Friendly.

We booked in at Abbey Hotel which was in a handy central location, it's not the cheapest hotel - and not really that expensive either but it was perfect for our two night stay. The breakfasts are worth mentioning too, for once in his life Steven lucked out with the full veggie fry up - which included veggie sausage and halloumi! I had a smoked bacon and egg butty (and a pastry) which was spot on.

First stop was the pub! The weather was a bit wet and windy so we headed straight to The Salamander for drink or two, its a Bath Ales pub with plenty of choice and a nice atmosphere and then we moved on to The Huntsmen which was opposite our hotel for another swift one.

After reading some reviews of a couple of Thai restaurants round the corner we settled on the one with the best veggie food for Steven. Even though the interior of Mai Tai may be a little questionable (so much red!), the food was actually really good and I'd definitely recommend it.

The next day was our only full day in Bath so wanted to make the most of it, after breakfast we headed straight to Colonna & Small's , where they do serious coffee (no sugar), with a whole load of blends to choose from. Anytime I mentioned we were visiting Bath I was recommended to go here, so now I'm recommending you to go here!

We went for a wander around and came across the best bookshop - Mr B's Emporium of Reading Delights with so many books of all different genres, the photography section was thoroughly stocked and I could very easily and very happily spend my days sat upstairs in the comfy chairs reading all day. Also, very happy I bought that Tracey Emin tote!

Steven found his new favourite shop too, Vintage and Rare Guitars. I think its funny that most music shops are always little houses and its like wandering around someones (well stocked) living room.

We found this cute little shop called Found which really should be called Stationary Porn, some really lovely stuff in there.

I mean, just look at the Royal Crescent! What a beaut. We went for a nice long walk along the canal afterwards but I will share the rest of the pics tomorrow.
