DONNA NOOK

Donna Nook

Donna Nook is on the east coast of England - just down the road from Grimsby and Cleethorpes and not too far from where I'm from originally, before those bright lights of London called. It's an RAF station that's used for bombing practise but its also home to Lincolnshire Nature Reserve and between October and December of each year the Grey Seal's return to have their pups. Apparently over the last few years it has become more and more popular and they have now put a fence up to stop people from touching the new borns - even if some of them loved a bit of posing in front of the camera.

The whole sea front is full of seals and their babes making all kinds of noises. The pups have their white fur until about 3 weeks old - some of them were massive for so young!

That little pup at the front had just been born, apparently they expect about 10% to die when born and that's mainly through abandonment.

And this little fella just wouldn't stop smiling for me!
If you're in the area then I'd definitely recommend going to see them, its quite a sight - and the sound of them all together is really something. Be prepared for some intense seal fighting though, they are very protective of their pups and will fight any threat off.

  2. OH MY GOSH. I saw the first photo and was thinking how beautiful it was, but fully did not expect for all of the cute to happen! That last little seal is SO playful!

  3. Oh good lord, the seal pups are so darn cute, especially the little fellow in the last picture - his face! I can see why they've needed to erect barriers...I would probably have wanted to make friends with the babies if I'd been visiting...xx

  4. Only just saw this, they're so cute! Lovely pictures Jo, also really liking the name of the place, sounds like a character in a book set in Victorian times, in the north of England, with moors. Sorry, got a little carried away! X
