COPENHAGEN - PART 1

Copenhagen-Jo_Crawford-0727

To celebrate our 7 year anniversary (7 years!!) we went to Copenhagen for a long weekend of beer, snow and err... pizza...twice, predictably.

We had no plans but to walk around and eat as many pastries as possible and to take in the sights. It is so nice having something to look forward to in January, I find it such a tough month - those cold and dark nights are long and depressing so getting away for a couple nights works a treat.

We booked a hotel for our visit, as we were only there for a couple of nights it seemed to be better value than Airbnb and just that little bit more convenient. The hotel was really good too, we stayed in Hotel Alexandra which was right near the Tivoli gardens on H.C. Andersens Boulevard so perfect for walking all over the place within the same amount of time. It had beautiful Danish furniture in the room so very pleasing to the eye!

After we dropped our bags off our first stop was the Mikkeller Bar on Viktoriagade for a tipple.

I'm not a huge beer drinker but their Pilsner was lovely and went down a treat. This bar is very popular though so expect to be a little squished in.

We then headed to Mother for pizza after getting a couple of recommendations for it. We managed to squeeze in before peak time - I'd recommend booking if you want to go at a normal time as the guys clip board was full of names on every time slot.

The pizza was really good, it's a sourdough base but slightly tougher then a Franco Manca and the crust was less burnt. It had more of a stodge to it if thats makes sense? -  not necessarily better or worse, just different and very enjoyable. It was also pretty good value, similar to London prices I'd say.

Copenhagen

I like the branches for decor!

We then had a little mooch around before heading back to the hotel, it was so cold!

The next day the skies were filled with thick heavy clouds and it was freezing. A pair of tights, jeans and two pairs of socks weren't doing anything!

We went for breakfast at The Laundromat CafĂ© and ended up with a simple breakfast of rye bread with eggs and bacon (me) and tomatoes for Steven. There was a little miscommunication as we wanted to try the breakfast where you get all the food - pancakes, yoghurt, muesli, bread etc but ended up with half the food. It was very nice though, a little simple but still very tasty.

Copenhagen

So to make up for missing out on all the food we hopped in the nearest bakery for two very, very good pastries. We were on holiday!

Copenhagen

We walked around the area some more...

And came across the nicest Danish furniture just sat out on the street outside a vintage shop. We were in the Vesterbro area at this point.
After looking inside I wanted to be sick as I'd just found the perfect sideboard and chest of drawers for our flat.

And a load of nice chairs just stacked in a corner.

It was getting colder so we headed up to the centre where all the shops are but taking in the sights a long the way.

We stopped for more sweet treats...oops...

Then it snowed!

At this point we were up by Nyhavn which is such a lovely area, very quaint and I can imagine it being a really nice place to get a beer and sit out in the summer. It was very quiet when we were there as the snow was getting heavier...we stuck it out to take a few more pictures...

But, the snow was winning so we retreated back to the hotel for a nap, warm our feet and watch the snow out of the window.

Copenhagen

We finished the day off with a short walk down to Tommi's Burger Joint (which is next to Mother), not very traditional I know but oh so good.

I loved that burger in all its bacon and cheese glory - and I completely forgot that I have the London branch on my list of places to visit!

I need to sort through the next days photos so will do another post as soon as I do.
