CAMPING IN PEMBROKESHIRE

St Davids, Wales

After spending 3 nights in the Brecon Beacons we made our way as far west as we could to the Pembrokeshire coast. It only took a couple of hours to get from Brecon to our campsite at Caerfai Bay in St Davids with a really stunning drive along the way.

Wales is definitely my new favourite place in Britain! I personally think the coast equally matches Cornwall and Devon and it almost feels like a secret as most people seem to choose the South of England over Wales. One big factor I did notice was how uncommercialised this area is. I know other coasts/beaches have chain coffee shops or lots of advertising but I found the Pembrokeshire coast almost unspoilt because of that. I also noticed that in the shops we went in (including the local supermarket), they tend to only sell Welsh produce, fruit, veg, eggs, meat etc. Which is just bloody brilliant...and actually really shouldn't be a novelty at all.

We were treated to some beautiful skies as our tent overlooked the sea and we did a few coastal path walks in both directions eating the brambles along the way. On one of the days, we ended up walking the near 5 miles to the next town - all in the name of a pub lunch and a cuppa!

I really couldn't get enough of the views.

I certainly miss saying hello to everyone I pass, whether on the way to the washing up sinks at the campsite or when you feel like there couldn't possibly be anyone around when a couple of miles in to a walk but then an elderly man and his dog appear from round the corner.

I couldn't resist having another go at the night time long exposure of our tent, the sky was so clear and our tent just looked so pretty all lit up!

And that was the end of our week in Wales and potentially our last camping trip of the year...maybe. We'll be back, Wales. You're too good not to.

I made a video of the Welsh landscape which you can see here and I have also shared a few more pictures over on my website as Blogger hates pictures.

WEBSITE

In my last post I briefly mentioned my new website but I wanted to talk a bit more about it...

Last year I launched a website (which I have now taken down) which didn't feel right, I wasn't that excited about it or even updated it very much. It was cluttered and messy with too much on there and it didn't feel very personal or really show the kind of work I like/want to make. Having a space that you're proud of and you want people to look at your work on is really important. Over the past few months I have been working on this new website, tinkering and tweaking each day to get it to a place that I am really happy with. With the new design and new URL - www.joannecrawford.com, I have simplified things, honed it down a bit. It all makes more sense now and I love updating the sections as I make new work.

The landing page is the weddings that I have shot, neatly edited down to 50 or so images from each day. I'd love to start shooting more weddings so please do get in touch if you or anyone you know is getting married.

I also have a Personal section which is where all the other work I make goes. I haven't really finished this section yet and I'm not sure if I ever will. I'm still working out the categories and how many images I'd like in each but I think it will be a constant work in progress as I make more work and replace old with new and take on new projects. I'd also like to incorporate the videos I make too so I think I'll be looking into that very soon.

The blog section I have on there is an up to date record of the work I am making and that I am proud to share. I obviously have this blog which is kind of my online diary, a place where I can put everyday moments and write about whatever I want. The two may even interlink at times, who knows!

I'd love to know what you think of it, good or bad! Sometimes it's hard to see the wood from the trees when you're so immersed in something.

CAMPING IN BRECON BEACONS

Wales

Oh Wales. You are just wonderful.

Last week we potentially had our last camping trip of the year, I say with emphasis on the potentially...fingers crossed we can sneak one in at some point! Christmas day in the tent, Steven?

Having only really been to North Wales before, I knew the rest was going to be lovely but I was really taken aback with just how utterly beautiful the country is. We booked 3 nights in the Brecon Beacons and 4 nights on the Pembrokeshire coast, mountains then sea. Perfecto.

I haven't had the chance to finish editing the Pembrokeshire pictures yet but here's a few from our time in the Brecon Beacons. We stayed in a lovely little campsite in Talybont that I would recommend to anybody, its a working farm and the owner, Lydia, is very friendly and helpful. There's lots of lovely walks around the area too and even though there seems to be only about 20 houses in the village - they have about 4 pubs!

The highlight of our time in the Brecon Beacons was walking up Pen y Fan - the highest point in Southern Britain. It took longer than I thought and it was pretty tough but the view even from a few metres up was unbelievable.

I guess a positive about having to run to the toilet in the cold just before bed is the chance to see all the stars at night...they don't make skies like this in London!

I'll be uploading a few more pictures to my new website www.joannecrawford.com so they can be seen without being compressed by Blogger and I'll be sharing the Pembrokeshire ones very soon...until then, have you seen my Wales Landscape video?

VIDEO: WELSH LANDSCAPE

I shot this video whilst on our camping trip in Wales last week - which was really bloody lovely and I'm just finishing off editing the pictures then I'll upload them.  This video is similar to the one I uploaded in July but I wanted to expand on the idea further as I think it really lends itself to show just what Wales has to offer. I love this music too (wrote by my boyfriend) and felt like the original video didn't really do it much justice. Hope you like it!

CAMPING IN SURREY

To say we have embraced camping this year is a bit of an understatement, I feel like we've gone hell for leather after it and there's no stopping us with our weekends away. Last year saw few holidays and getaways because of money/time/stress etc etc. But this year we have taken advantage of the bank holidays, we've said no to plans in favour of a night in the tent and explored as much as we could of the south because before we know it we'll be old and wrinkly and have 'always wanted to go to such and such a place but never quite made it'. We packed up the car on Saturday morning and headed to Surrey, only an hour and a half drive away, and enjoyed the rain and clouds and walking in the woods. We enjoyed cooking on our little stove and eating as much chocolate as want because 'we're on holiday' and we loved waking up in our tent snuggled up in our blankets and sleeping bags ready for our first cuppa.

We've got a week off coming up which will probably be our last camping trip of the year before we get swallowed up with Christmas and the bad weather for the next 6 months. Just as we're getting used to these holidays they're soon gone but we fully intend to make the most of our last camping trip of 2015. Who knows where we'll end up visiting in 2016.
